The Alhambra with a local architect
My family still lives inside the Alhambra since the 19th century. How can that be? The Alhambra is more than a palace: it was built in the 13th century as an independent city of Granada with a productive agricultural territory and it is still inhabited today. Do you want to know all its secrets?

Visit the Alhambra and get to know every detail of its beautiful and magical architecture. It will be a surprise to discover that it is not a palace or a group of palaces: it is a fortified city independent of Granada with its own productive territory, built as such in the 13th century and still inhabited today. Built as such in the 13th century and even today still inhabited. Inhabited? Yes, there is still a small neighbourhood within its walls with families who arrived with the beginning of tourism in the 19th century. Romantic artists and writers began to spread the word about the beauty of this place and travellers began to arrive in Granada. Coinciding with the founding of the first travel agencies in Europe and the start of visits to Italy, Greece, Egypt was added to these trips called the Grand Tour, and finally the Alhambra and Granada were added for their exoticism. I belong to one of the families that still live in the Alhambra. Between 1850 and 1860 some entrepreneurs decided to buy houses in the Alhambra and start businesses focused on this incipient tourism. My great-great-grandfather was one of them, Abelardo Linares, a photographer. Since then my whole family has been born and raised in the Alhambra. That's why I studied architecture, that's why I specialised in heritage, Al Andalus and I love to show this wonderful place and make you see it through my eyes, the eyes of a daughter of the Alhambra.
