Description

The Alhambra was created and built as an independent city from Granada in 1238. That is why it had a productive area full of orchards and farms to have its independent economy. This area occupied a whole hill which still covers 500 hectares. These Andalusian rural estates were spaces for leisure and enjoyment, but also experimental laboratories on species, where part of the scientific, botanical and agricultural knowledge of the time was developed. We visit the Dehesa del Generalife to learn about the origin of the water that gives life to the Alhambra, the species that were imported at the time, the form of cultivation, botanical knowledge, the pharmacology of plants and the basis of much of the scientific knowledge of Al Andalus. Finally, we enter the Generalife, the best preserved Nasrid almunia (rural palace) and where we can see much of what we have been talking about on the walk, but also still active.
