Our trips are mostly during summer, due to climatic and holiday reasons. It is seasons with less rain, although the weather sometimes is too warm. But what if we add to your Andalusia travel plans the winter weather? That is still perfect!
Coming to Andalusia in winter has loads of possibilities which allow a better enjoyment of its territory and its cities. Andalusia travel, both are two concepts that seem to be associated always, as said, with summer. However, Andalusia is a territory without heavy rainfalls during the rest of the seasons, and the climate in many areas is still quite pleasant in winter. In addition, the touristic affluence is much smaller so you can visit many areas avoiding crowds.
ENJOY THE TRADITIONS AND CELEBRATIONS OF ANDALUSIA
Although Andalusian fairs are usually in summer, winter is also a time of celebration. We can enjoy the Carnival of Cádiz in February, thanks to the magnificent climate of the city. Andalucia travel and tradition are also found in the magnificent festival of Zambombas de Jerez, where the traditional Christmas music mixes up with flamenco.
WINTER GASTRONOMY IN ANDALUSIA
Your Andalucia travel experience will also improve with the gastronomy of winter. This season (and specially Christmas) is a time when a huge variety of sweets are cooked. It’s specially important the village of Estepa in Seville, cradle of one of the most important Christmas sweets: the “mantecado”. But the winter is also a very cold season, so it is important to keep yourself warm while tasting the magnificent wines of Jerez in the traditional “tabancos”, mainly in the area of Cádiz and Seville. And if you do not like the cold temperatures, in Almeria, its said “whenever it rains, ‘migas’ are made”! A very traditional dish cooked with bread or flour.
SIERRA NEVADA AND THE WHITE VILLAGES OF THE ALPUJARRA
Besides there are many places of great beauty in winter. Andalucia travel and winter are three words that lead us to talk about Sierra Nevada, the highest mountain range in Spain. Here you can go mountain-hiking, skiing, but certainly the main place we recommend to visit with Masquetours is the beautiful area of the Alpujarra: the main towns, like Lanjarón, Bubión, Capileira and Pampaneira, and also the other smaller and hidden ones. They have the charm of the white houses and the cobblestone streets that are occasionally covered with snow. In addition, in Capileira, the 16th of January, there is a gigantic bonfire, organised by the neighbours, and they roast in the embers, local products, while drinking good ‘mistela’.
